Harkins Celebrates Women in Construction Week

Columbia, MD

Women in Construction Week (WIC Week) is a significant annual event that highlights the invaluable contributions of women to the construction industry. It takes place every year during the first full week of March and serves as a platform to celebrate the strength, knowledge, and resilience of women who play pivotal roles in shaping the future of construction.

This year’s theme, “Keys to the Future,” highlights the critical role that women play in driving innovation, progress, and transformation within the construction industry. It emphasizes the need to recognize and harness the diverse talents and perspectives that women bring to the table.

The Harkins Women’s Roundtable affinity group kicked off WIC Week on Monday, March 4, with a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “What if the Right Man for the Job is a Woman?” In collaboration with NAWIC Baltimore, this event aimed to challenge stereotypes and break down barriers in the construction industry.

The sold-out discussion, hosted at Harkins’ corporate headquarters, attracted over 70 construction professionals, ranging from laborers in the field to vice presidents. Through candid conversations and shared experiences, attendees gained valuable insights into strategies for overcoming challenges, advancing career aspirations, and fostering a more inclusive and equitable work environment. Thank you to our moderator, Harkins Project Manager Laura Byrne, and to all of our speakers for sharing their insights: ARCO Design/Build Manager Corinne Conover, Brightview Senior Living Vice President of Development Maria Miller, Clark Construction Superintendent Christine Lenardson, Rosendin Fire Alarm Manager Robin Mitchell, and Rosendin Project Coordinator Violet Carter.

At Harkins, we are proud of our inspiring women in construction who continue to break barriers. Our Women’s Roundtable affinity group is at the forefront of driving positive change and creating opportunities for women in construction. Meet the remarkable women shaping Harkins’ future on our WIC Week landing page.
