Renovation

Whether it’s a major gut rehab of a concrete highrise, an adaptive reuse of a historical structure, or an occupied renovation of a building, every project is unique. The preconstruction and construction experts in our Renovation division bring a special knowledge and approach to these projects, anticipating the challenges and planning for what’s behind the walls. Most of all, our processes and communication are fine-tuned to serve the needs of all the various stakeholders, including our owner, residents, funding agencies, and historical commissions.

let's build something exceptional.

Our final feature of 2018 is John Dawson, a Hero of Harkins since 1986. John has served in many roles throughout the years, most notably in the IT and marketing departments. He was one of the first employees of our IT department, where he did process automation, software training, tech work, and even installed our first email system and remote access software. After a short time away from Harkins, John returned to contribute his talents to our Marketing Department, and he has called this department home since 2000. John transformed our estimating and marketing information systems, managed three website re-designs in our company’s history, served as our in-house graphic designer and photographer for corporate events, set up all of our social media, and took our Harkins Header to the next level. John has been essential in Harkins’ success over the years and was always one to count on for his creative input and ambitious attitude. Whether it was writing a song for a fellow employee’s birthday or volunteering for one of many community service projects, John was always depended on and participated with utmost enthusiasm. As of January 2019, John will move to his next role: retirement. During retirement, John would like to focus more on his personal interests, specifically with his musical talents. He plans to write new music and put a band together. He would also like to explore substitute teaching for Montgomery County Schools as a chorus teacher. When asked about his most memorable experience at Harkins, John said, “I’ve had the opportunity to serve the company in three different departments – Admin, IT, and Marketing. In each case, the greatest joy has come from doing things that I felt were making a difference. That is one of the greatest things about our company – and this can be traced back to Mr. Harkins – that every one of us has the opportunity to bring our own personal talents, abilities, and enthusiasm to take our department and our company to the next level.” ...
