Erickson Senior Living’s flagship community, Charlestown observed its 30th anniversary in 2013 by completing a series of construction projects that strategically modernized their facilities. This included Charlestown Square, the main community building on campus. Harkins completely renovated the structure, including building additions to the front and rear and constructing a new indoor pool facility.
The rear addition includes a new bar, gym facilities, salon, new locker rooms, and additional facility space. The old pool building was torn down and replaced with a new indoor pool and spa. The roof of the addition and pool is almost entirely covered in a green roof to accommodate the stormwater management needs. The new front addition includes a new portico at the main entry, a community store, dining area, and additional facility spaces.
How Harkins Made a Difference
- We conducted the work in two phases so that residents could continue to enjoy the facility during construction and provided temporary entrances when the main ones were being renovated.
- Harkins maintained excellent communication not only with management but with residents, too. We kept them informed about what to expect and how things were progressing, and wherever possible we provided windows for them to be able to watch the work as it was being performed.
Outstanding performance during an extremely difficult project fraught with unforeseen existing conditions and an overwhelming number of client-requested changes.
