Senior Estimator

Columbia, MD
  • Ability to conceptualize and create construction budgets based on preliminary and schematic documents
  • Ability to estimate and control design of design build projects
  • Review scope and finalize construction budget for transition to project manager and site teams
  • Ability to create a preconstruction design schedule to utilize through the preconstruction process
  • Analyze and coordinate plans and specifications
  • Apply unit costs to develop conceptual estimates
  • Seek out and maintain local trade partner network
  • Work with owner’s and architect’s team to develop and finalize contract documents
  • Oversee assigned estimators’ work, coaching and mentoring to enhance personal and professional development
  • Create construction budgets based on preliminary and schematic documents
  • With guidance from the Preconstruction Manager, assist architects, engineers, and owners in the development of plans and specifications that are within the proposed budget limitations
  • Confirm bidders’ credentials used in budgets (proper licenses, insurance, bonds, reference checks, etc.)
  • Lead the bid process for projects in various stages of design
  • Able to estimate all 16 divisions
  • Ensure that minority trade partner participation goals are met as per project requirements and Company goals
  • Maintain current knowledge and use of all local and state building codes and public funding source design standards
  • Formulate and coordinate project bid campaigns using inhouse tools (i.e. select specific trade partners whose services fit the project criteria in all 16 divisions) and develop, coordinate, and issue all project correspondence to the project principles
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in estimating
  • Knowledgeable in construction industry, scheduling, contract law, contract types, and contract negotiations
  • Knowledgeable with regional marketplace, pricing, and subcontractor community
  • Ability to multi-task and cope with many issues and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to manage others
  • Demonstrated ability to understand Phoenix scheduling
  • Demonstrated ability to understand construction plans and specs
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experienced with Phoenix, Insite, and On-Screen Takeoff or similar estimating software
  • Knowledgeable with CSI formats and ability to read and interpret plans and specs
  • Good communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Project Lifecycle Training Rotation
  • Experienced with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Team player with ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact and function professionally with all parties
  • Demonstrated ability to use Procore
