Metro Heights at Mondawmin

Baltimore, MD

an affordable landmark

Metro Heights at Mondawmin serves as a landmark building in a Baltimore City neighborhood that has been the focus of substantial investment encompassing a myriad of project types including residential, retail, office, institutional, and cultural centers. Originally comprised of 12 vacant lots and abandoned structures, these properties were acquired from the city’s Department of Housing and Community Development through its Vacant to Value program and conveyed through a Land Disposition Agreement.

Unlike many apartment buildings that group all amenity spaces into a single area, Metro Heights breaks away from that norm to ensures that all residents can experience incredible spaces with fantastic views. The steel frame entrance creates a striking signature element and makes a bold statement about the resilience and uplifting future of the community. A model transit-oriented development, Metro Heights is situated within walking distance of the metro and the numerous bus lines available at the Mondawmin transit hub.

It provides 70 well-designed affordable apartments with a suite of amenities, including on-site parking, a club room, a business center, a fitness room, and a yoga studio for the area’s workforce. The strategic placing of Metro Heights fulfills the Greater Mondawmin Area Master Plan’s goal of addressing pockets of blight in the community.

How Harkins Made a Difference
  • Given the site’s condition and the area’s history during the uprising of April 2015, the project team created an integrated, architecturally-impressive and welcoming hub that serves as a beacon of hope, opportunity, and pride for residents, neighbors, and visitors in the area.
