Women in Construction
Women in Construction (WIC) Week is celebrated each year during the first full week of March to celebrate, educate, and promote the role of women in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) held its first WIC Week in 1998 and since then, it has expanded nationally to include presentations to aspiring high school students, jobsite tours, lunch and learns, and virtual events.
This year marks the 27th annual WIC Week, with the theme “Together We Rise.” This theme celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in collaboratively shaping the future of the construction industry.
We’d like to introduce the amazing women at Harkins who are crushing the stereotype that construction is a man’s industry and have continued to make a significant impact on the industry at large. We are proud to have them as part of our team.
For decades, the construction industry has grappled with one of the most significant gender disparities among all industries. Despite the rise in female participation, women constitute only 10.9% of the overall workforce and a mere 3% in the trades. Persistent efforts are essential to narrow this gap, which will help address the labor shortage and optimize efficiency within our industry. As advocates for women in construction, Harkins has actively worked to attract and empower female talent within our organization. Undoubtedly, our company’s culture and productivity have both improved due to our approach.”
