Many Paths, One Mission
Women in Construction
Women in Construction (WIC) Week is celebrated each year during the first full week of March to celebrate, educate, and promote the role of women in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) held its first WIC Week in 1998 and since then, it has expanded nationally to include presentations to aspiring high school students, jobsite tours, lunch and learns, and virtual events.
This year marks the 25th annual WIC Week, with the theme “Many Paths, One Mission.” This theme celebrates each woman’s unique journey to having a fulfilling career in the construction industry by supporting and recognizing each of their successes.
We’d like to introduce the amazing women at Harkins who are crushing the stereotype that construction is a man’s industry and have continued to make a significant impact on the industry at large. We are proud to have them as part of our team.
Throughout history, the gender gap in construction has been one of the largest in any industry. More women have entered the construction industry but are only 14% of the total workforce. We must continue to work towards reducing the gender gap in our industry. As a passionate promoter of women in construction, Harkins has made great efforts to recruit and empower the women in our ranks, and there is no doubt that we are a more talented and stronger company because of it.”
