This technically advanced facility replaces an existing building with a permanent state-of-the-art telecommunications facility in support of Presidential and Joint Chiefs of Staff command and control, communications, and intelligence requirements. The facility operates 24/7 and provides space for wideband critical communications equipment supporting worldwide military and commercial satellite communications. These systems provide a primary transmission path for high capacity and protected communications supporting the war fighter at all levels of command and control.
The structural steel and masonry building includes space for existing and newly fielded equipment, network operations and maintenance support areas, secure conference and training areas, company headquarters areas, break area, arms rooms, storage, and loading docks.
In addition to high tech communications, the facility incorporates state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems, including redundant power, air conditioning, an auxiliary emergency generator, 20,000 sf of raised access flooring, fire protection and detection systems, and intrusion detection systems (IDS). The exterior is brick, highlighted with decorative precast and blue-green curtain wall glazing, and the roof is TPO and standing seam.
The scope of work also included utilities, sidewalks, curb, gutters, storm drainage, landscaping, access roads, site development, and lightning protection. Construction of a temporary enclosure to protect sensitive communication equipment during construction and demolition activities was also included, as well as force protection and anti-terrorism measures such as access control, bollards, and metal doors.
