Charlestown Edgewood

Erickson Senior Living’s flagship community, Charlestown, observed its 30th anniversary in 2013 by completing a series of construction projects that have strategically modernized their facilities.

At Edgewood, Harkins’ scope for the new construction was to build a five-story addition onto the existing building, that essentially doubled the building’s size while maintaining the same number of apartments. The new structure is steel and concrete.

The existing building was gutted prior to the construction of the redesigned apartments, and renovations were done on the existing veneers to match the veneers on the new addition aesthetically. The community’s auditorium is also housed in this building, and it too was completely gutted and upgraded.

In order to maintain the flow of campus pedestrian traffic under cover, the Harkins team developed temporary enclosed corridors that went through the building under construction.
