Harkins Will Move HQ to Columbia
Harkins will be moving our corporate headquarters to Columbia, Maryland at the end of 2016. The company has signed a lease with the Howard Hughes Corporation for the fourth floor at 60 Columbia Corporate Center, which is located at 10490 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. Also known as Park Square, the 120,000 sf office structure is one of a dozen commercial projects Harkins has built in Columbia.
The move was announced this morning at the Baltimore Business Journal’s Future of Columbia event at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center by Karen S. Cherry, Vice President of Office Leasing at Howard Hughes. Ms. Cherry said, “We are thrilled that Harkins chose Downtown Columbia for their headquarters. It is a well-respected company and a great addition to Downtown Columbia as it transforms into the urban core of the community and Howard County.”
Harkins President and COO Gary Garofalo said, “This move is the result of our success, our growth, and some dynamic strategic initiatives we’ve been developing over the last three years. We’re very excited about coming to Columbia, which is growing and is located perfectly for us to engage with our clients and business partners. Our new space will reflect our new market-based corporate structure, and will take our 50-year history of comprehensive client service to the next level.”
Our current lease expires in December at the Georgian-style building in Marriottsville, Maryland we have occupied since 2001. “This home has served us very well,” said Garofalo, “but the space at Park Square and its location in Columbia really reflects our vision of who we are in 2016, and who we can become as the company continues to grow.”
Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman said having Harkins headquartered in downtown Columbia is a great fit. “Harkins has been important to Columbia and Howard County for the past 50 years. Tom Harkins built much of Jim Rouse’s multifamily housing in Columbia in the 1960s and 70s, and as a Howard County business for the last 16 years, they have been outstanding corporate citizens. I’m excited they will be a part of the new and vibrant downtown Columbia.”
The Verve Partnership is providing space planning and design services, and build-out is being managed by Mark Tillotson (VP) and Matt DeGourse (Sr. PM) of Harkins’ Commercial group. We expect to make the actual move between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and will announce our exact mailing address at that time. Phone numbers and e-mails will remain the same.
Harkins will continue to operate our Northeast Office in Media, PA and Tysons Office in McLean, VA.
