Harkins Named In-Kind Donor of the Year by Habitat for Humanity
Harkins is pleased to announce it was named the In-Kind Donor of the Year by Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. In celebration of their 35th anniversary, Habitat Chesapeake honored a select group of supporters that enabled their organization to successfully accomplish their mission of building homes, communities, and hope in Central Maryland. President and COO Gary Garofalo and Bid Manager and Small Business Liaison Walt Whitlow accepted the award on behalf of Harkins at the 35th anniversary reception on June 22nd in Baltimore, MD.
Harkins, in partnership with Habitat Chesapeake, performed a full rehab of a home in the Woodbourne-McCabe neighborhood of Baltimore as part of their 50-year anniversary celebration in 2015 – 2016. President and COO Gary Garofalo said “One of the most important core values that Harkins tries to live up to as a community leader is to not only financially support those in need, but to give the gift of time. Although this is often the harder gift to give, it is the most rewarding.” Harkins provided preconstruction and construction management services, and many of our employees and subcontractors volunteered their time and materials to complete this project.
After completing a year of “sweat equity”, Andre Butler and his two sons moved into their new home. Mr. Butler will repay his no-interest mortgage over a period of 30 years, illustrating Habitat Chesapeake’s mission to partner with families in providing affordable housing.
